What it is
A process blueprint shows the new process with the AI solution in it, in steps. It separates what the person sees from what happens behind the scenes, and marks every handoff between a person and the AI solution, and what happens when something goes wrong.
When to use it
When the whole service needs to be seen: what the person sees, what happens behind it, and where work passes between a person and the AI solution.
When to skip it
When the question is about one screen or one conversation.
How to run it
- 10 minLay out the steps the person goes through, left to right.
- 20 minAdd what the person sees, what the AI solution does, and the hidden steps behind it.
- 15 minMark every handoff between a person and the AI solution.
- 15 minMark where each could fail, and who would notice.
About 60 minutes of method time. Add ten to fifteen minutes to open and close the session.
What to watch for
Hidden steps left out, such as data preparation and approvals. Handoffs left unmarked.
The AI lens
For every handoff, name who owns the output. Unowned handoffs are where AI projects fail.
What you leave with
A blueprint of visible and hidden steps, with every handoff marked.
An example
A blueprint for AI-assisted claims shows the visible steps for the claimant, the hidden steps for the system and the handler, and a handoff where a person approves the AI draft.
How it compares
A Process Blueprint shows the future process. A Current-State Workflow Map shows today's.
